The Staff Dashboard application derived from the need of a secondary authentication. Then another project crossed my desk for a staff landing page. So I decided to marry the two projects into one. By using Salesforce Login Flows, I found a way to implement a secondary authentication. When the employee signs into the secondary login. I store the employee's id in the salesforce cache. Then I fully authenticate the employee into the salesforce login flow and redirect the employee to their new dashboard.
